SEVEN CONGREGATIONS OF CHRIST IN LONDON Article 1: God and His Attributes. The Lord our God is but one God, whose
subsistence is in Himself; Whose essence cannot be comprehended by any but
Himself; Who only hath immortality dwelling in the light which no man can
approach unto; Who is in Himself most holy, every way infinite, in greatness,
wisdom, power, love; merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abundant in
goodness and truth, Who giveth being, moving, and preservation to all
creatures. References I Cor. 12:6; Isa. 44:6, chap. 46:9. Exod. 3:14. I Tim. 6:16. Isa. 43:15. Psalms 147:5. Deut.32: 3. Job 36:5. Jer. 10: 12. Exod. 34: 6,7. Acts 17: 28. Rom. 11:36. Quote from Charles Spurgeon on Nehemiah The
people had not only to build the wall of Jerusalem, but to watch against their
enemies at the same time. The powers of evil are mad against the people of God.
If they can in any way injure or annoy us, you may rest assured that they will
do so. The prayers of Nehemiah and the Jews were petitions for divine
protection. They knew what they wanted, and they asked for it
definitely. Prayer alone will not avail. To
pray and not to watch is presumption. You pretend to trust God, and yet you are
throwing yourself in danger, as the devil would have had Christ do when he
tempted him to cast himself down from the temple. If you pray to be kept, then
be watchful. Prayer without watchfulness is hypocrisy. |
